This project at Human System Labs explored situation awareness (SA) and cognitive workload in autonomous driving scenarios using a VR environment. I designed realistic driving simulations and employed eye-tracking, near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), and DRT to measure SA and mental effort. The VR Driving scenario was done using CARLA in Unreal Engine 4 along with Python. My work, spanning 2022-2024, provided critical insights into how drivers interact with autonomous systems, informing safer and more intuitive vehicle designs.
Key Contributions:
-Developed VR-based autonomous driving scenarios to study situation awareness.
-Utilized eye-tracking, NIRS, and DRT to assess cognitive workload and SA metrics.
-Analyzed driver interaction with autonomous systems to enhance system design.
-Contributed to longitudinal research improving human-machine interfaces in vehicles.
